The BMP is elegantly engineered and quite complicated. It is compact with a low silhouette and is fully amphibious. Much lower than the M2 Bradley. Equipped with a 2-man turret. The 30mm cannon is effective against light armored vehicles as well as missile firing helicopters. Ammo loading system is poorly designed. Reloading is very slow. The gun can fire at two different rates and is fully stabilized in two planes. A remarkable feature is that the rear doors are hollow and serve as fuel  tanks, an obvious danger. The BMP-2 saw action in  Afghanistan.
